Belly Laughs and Belfast Film Festival are pleased to present a series of iconic silent comedy films in the cosy surrounds of the Beanbag cinema in 23 Donegall Street, Belfast. The silent film era (1900s-1930s) brought comedy into the medium of film. It continues to influence modern day comedy particularly in the form of animated cartoons and slapstick gags.

All films are free and start promptly at 12.30pm, finishing before 2pm.

THE GOLD RUSH is a 1925 silent comedy written, produced, directed by, and starring Charlie Chaplin in his Little Tramp role. The film also stars Georgia Hale, Mack Swain, Tom Murray, Henry Bergman, and Malcolm Waite. Chaplin declared several times that this was the film that he most wanted to be remembered for. Mordaunt Hall wrote in The New York Times: "Here is a comedy with streaks of poetry, pathos, tenderness, linked with brusqueness and boisterousness. It is the outstanding gem of all Chaplin's pictures".
